As a German federal company, GIZ is supporting the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to implement their tasks in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The Regional Program on “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land use for Economic Development in Central Asia“ (Sustain-CA) commissioned by BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) aims to develop and promote innovative, practice-proven, integrative, sustainable, climate-sensitive and economically viable land use approaches with the participation of different sectors to institutionalize those approaches into government policy in the countries of Central Asia. With this Program GIZ builds on 10 years of experience in regional cooperation on land use in Central Asia.

Position: full-time
Location: Bishkek with travel around Kyrgyzstan
Duration: February 1, 2019 – December 31, 2020
Reporting to: Country coordinator of Sustain-CA in Kyrgyzstan

 

Responsibilities
The junior technical professional provides support for
the country coordinator of Sustain-CA in Kyrgyzstan and other Program experts
coordinating and monitoring project activities
carrying out specific research tasks, which are required for planning the implementation of the Program
carrying out specific tasks in connection with knowledge management for the Program

The junior advisor performs the following tasks:

Tasks
Coordination and monitoring
The junior technical professional
assists in coordination of the Program activities in Forest and Pasture components with spin-off projects, development and national partner organizations including:
activities related to the forest sector reform at all levels
support in pasture monitoring related tasks and commitments, support of activities related to environmental accounting and spatial data
coordinates the Program country teams´ inputs on the elaboration of the Integrated Land Use Management Approach (ILUMA) document
supports project monitoring and updates information on project progress, documents and reports regularly on the status of results
assists with recording and documenting the results of all activities
assists with planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects
assists with PR work for the Program
supports any other activities related to the Program activities as agreed with the management

Research
The junior technical professional
in consultation with the manager or Program experts, prepares and carries out qualitative research or background analysis related to integrative land use and climate change (developing survey instruments, collecting and analysing data)

Knowledge management
The junior technical professional
assists in drawing up reports and ensures translation
assists in communicating, updating and collecting information on Program measures
assembles data on small procurements of equipment, material and keeps an inventory list
organises and updates Program documentation, the filing systems and the Program library

Implementation of project activities
The junior technical professional
ensures logistical and organisational support to the conduct of official meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences
assists with organisation of expert missions, e.g. drafting mission schedules, setting up meetings with national and international partners
develops material for trainings, workshop, conferences organised in the frame of the Program
moderates team meetings and small workshop groups

General obligations
The junior technical professional
is familiar with GIZ planning, implementation and reporting procedures and their changes
is familiar with other Programs and GIZ-assisted measures, concepts and status of implementation and knows the relevant experts and staff
represents the interest of the GIZ-assisted measure and always acts on its behalf
carries out important tasks for the Program, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description

Other duties/additional tasks
The junior technical professional
assists other Program experts, if necessary as translator
performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

Required qualifications, competences and experience
university degree in the area of land use, climate change or relevant field
experience in working with governmental agencies and/or international development organisations
ability to state clearly and consistently both verbally and in written;
collaborative working spirit, planning and organization skills
good computer and presentation skills, ability to work independently and in multifunctional teams, ability to learn
fluent in Kyrgyz and Russian languages
knowledge of English sufficient for business communication
experience of project management and research experience
